Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) blocks are lightweight precast building materials made with quartz sand calcined gypsum lime portland cement water and aluminum powder. The unique feature of AAC blocks is that they contain around 80% air by volume. This is achieved by adding an expanding agent to the mixture during production. AAC blocks are around one-third the weight of traditional concrete blocks making them easier to transport and maneuver during construction. This can also reduce the size and cost of foundations needed for a building. The air pockets within the AAC blocks act as excellent thermal and sound insulators. This can help regulate the temperature inside a building reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling and dampen outside noise. AAC is a non-combustible material and can withstand high temperatures for extended periods. AAC blocks can be easily cut shaped and drilled with standard woodworking tools. This allows for easy on-site modifications and simplifies electrical and plumbing installations.
